De Waterbevalling van Finnley Hayden Pikkaart Maandag 2 februari 2009 om 09.10 uur werd onze zoon Finnley Hayden Pikkaart geboren. Om 06.30 was mijn water gebroken waarna de weeen opgang kwamen. Ondertussen ging Michel het gehuurde bevallingsbad in elkaar zetten en vullen. Rond 9 uur mocht ik in het nog niet helemaal volle bad. Doordat ik verwachte nog wel even bezig te zijn wilde ik nog even naar de wc. Maar daar kreeg ik al mijn eerste perswee. Dus snel al uitkledend naar het bad gelopen en daar werd er gekeken hoe ver ik al was. Bij de volgende wee werd Finnley's hoofd al geboren. Ik heb zijn hoofdje vast gepakt en heb hem bij de volgende wee zelf ter wereld geholpen. Heel bijzonder vond ik dat. Ik heb hem nog een minuutje onder water gehouden. Doordat alles zo snel ging is de bevalling niet gefilmd. Pas toen hij al bovenwater was werd de camera gestart. Gelukkig zijn er wel wat foto's gemaakt. Meanwhile Michel was filling up the rented birthing bath. Around 9 I could go into the not yet completely filled bath. As I was expecting it to take some time I went to the toilet first. But there I had my first pushcontraction. So I walked quikly, while undressing, to the bath where I was checked to see how far I was. With the next contraction Finnley's head was born. I held his head my self and with another contraction helped him in to the word. That was something very special. I held him onder the water for about a minute Because everything went so quickly the birth it self wasn't filmed. Only when he was above the water the camera was turned on. It is not always possible to do everything for our children's well being that we may wish to, once they are in the world, but it is within our power to offer them the gift of birthing consciously with the intention of welcoming them with love! zero screaming for mommy, to induce labor we walked around the block. when she was ready she got in the tub and 16 minutes later this guy came out. the maori shaman/midwives i work with talk about many of the imbalances of the world today stemming from our treatment of children at birth. when drugs, forceps, scalpels are NOT used, and instead babies are welcomed into the world by the hands of their parents, we are imprinting them with love NOT fear. there are infinite ways that a loving and gentle birth experience effects the life of that child and all whom they come into contact with. many are scientifically documented (see 'primal health research institute's data base) but science aside, there are the benefits that one can determine with common sense. birth is our first impression, and when our first impression of life, or anything or anyone for that matter, is one of love, peace, welcoming and grace, we tend to continue our life and our relationships with that as our foundation. This is a video, a long one, of my wonderful homebirth. After a couple minutes showing early labor, there is a video of late during transition (...see the contraction when I say, "It's not stopping!!"...it seemed so long and difficult). After this, there is a 'final stretch' of about 20 minutes of fantastic physiological birthing in the birthing tub...I did not really push much, mostly my body did it. I enjoyed this part more than it seems. Actually, I think you can see my eyes rolling in the back of my head a few times. That's not because of pain. The baby did not crown; his head came all in one contraction, and with the next contraction his body came. It's pretty clear, I think, when this is happening. My husband delivered Dmitri, our first baby, while our midwife looked on. Also on this video: my mother-in-law came over a couple of hours after the birth to meet her first grandchild. I want to share this with everyone, because it was a wonderful experience. Birth can be like this. Thanks for watching.
